For the Love of Music

I love live music, I've seen quite a few shows over the years.  Especially since I'm old enough to now go to a concert lounge by my home that holds some awesome shows. I don't always like to compare shows with each other because they're usually all pretty good and there are always contributing factors like where the show is being held and the people in the audience.   But every once in a while I feel the need to, and this time is one of them.

Within the span of under a week I got to see both Adam Gontier and Three Days Grace with their new singer.  I had seen Three Days Grace before the split about two years ago and it was pretty good.  I knew their songs and enjoyed seeing them because it's always fun, but it wasn't anything too spectacular compared to some of the crazy things I've seen.  But with the spit I didn't know what to expect.  So I felt like I needed to compose my thoughts on the subject.  This was also brought on because both groups mentioned that there was some issue and fight of some kind going on.  While I don't know what is going on or has happened it ws intriguing to hear it mentioned by both.

I saw Adam Gontier first when I went to a festival, and I have to admit that I wasn't that impressed with it.  He started out acoustic, just him and his guitar.  I remember my mom saying that if this was going to be it she was going to sit back down (she was a whole other issue during the festival.)  He eventually added other people, I believe he mentioned they were various family members, and it did get better.  But still, it was just kinda there to take time.  At one point he climbed up the supports on the side of the stage, but after seeing a guitar player go up earlier and hang from the top while playing, it seemed a little less amazing then it might have been.  Altogether the set didn't seem all that well put together, like it was just holding it together.  And i didn't help that earlier in the day he went on to sing with Art of Dying and no one was impressed by it, they seemed more confused by his presence than anything.

Later in the week I saw Three Days Grace and was much happier with them.  They seemed much more put together and unified for the most part.  And while they mentioned some sort of argument and trouble, they didn't spend as much time on it.  I do have to admit that I like this venue more and that may have an effect, but all in all they did a better job.

I wouldn't object to see Adam again, but it's not going to be one that I see being the main event or group I'm going to see.  There are a lot of other bands that I'm going to be going to first, or relive the many I've seen.

P.S. I'm actually working on decorating a pair of shoes right now with logos of most of the bands I've seen.  Perhaps I'll upload a pic of them eventually
