Review: Chasing Smoke by K.A. Mitchell 3/5*

First of all, just a few things I want to share.  Chasing down some of this information is hard, and I really hope that some day someone will appreciate this.... and also, sorry I keep giving you reviews for 3 star books, but there the ones that have the best reviews so far.   Enjoy another review.

Blurb: An old mystery brought them together. Solving it could tear them apart.
In the best of times, Daniel Gardner hates visiting his family. With his boyfriend pressuring him for a mortgage-serious commitment, Christmas in Easton, PA sounds, for once, like a welcome escape. His old house holds more than memories of a miserable adolescence, though. It has Trey Eriksson.
At seventeen, Trey was taken in by the wealthy Gardner family after his father was jailed for his mother’s murder. Until he left for the Army, he fought a double-edged battle—for proof of his father’s innocence and against his attraction to Daniel.
Fifteen years later, things haven’t changed. Trey is still looking for the real killer. And Daniel has never forgotten how Trey used to sneak into his room at night.
Now new clues to the murder are resurfacing—and so is Trey and Daniel’s sexual chemistry. Except this time, Trey has come to terms with his orientation.
But their connection may not be enough to overcome the mistakes of the past. Not while a murderer still walks free…

My Thoughts: After reading four other books by K.A. Mitchell, I felt extremely excited to read this novel. I had absolutely loved her Florida series and Hot Ticket: A Serving Love Story was probably my favorite short story I've read in a while. I don't feel like my expectations were meet for this book though.
Fist off I'll start by saying I felt every character I read about deserved to be slapped, with the exception of the children briefly mentioned in the beginning. They were all full of them selves and worried about mainly themselves. They weren't true to anyone else and the main characters hardly ever seemed to think about what the other would actually do or how they would respond. Their so certain of things that we as a reader know are wrong. They all have their problems, and rightfully so. But the problems are over simplified and over exaggerated.
Second, The word choices. At times I felt like the phrasing of a sentence was just wrong or that what a character was saying was awkward. Some parts seemed lacking of emotion or action when they were needed and others needed to calm down a bit.
Third, The 'case'. As much as I loved the idea, I hated it at the same time. Between all their emotions it got covered and wasn't as big a part of the novel as it needed to be. After spending so much time looking over one piece of evidence, the rest of the investigation felt extremely rushed.
Besides that there was the length. This book was just simply too long and drawn out for what I felt I got out of it.

This book wasn't all horrible though. The characters are emotional and there's some good tension going on between them springing from deep routed issues from each of their pasts. Mitchell is great at writing their intimate moments, though I do feel some from her other book would easily surpass.

One last thing, I felt kind of disappointed that handcuffs were not used inappropriately at any point in this novel. There was the set up and hint that it was going to be there, but never actually happens. I would have loved to read how Mitchell would portray a scene like that.

Review: Love in an Elevator 3/5*

Since I'm trying to figure out this confusing world of blogging that I seem to have gotten myself into I figure I better dive in and hope I can swim.   Today I'm just going to get to my point and post a review of a book I read not to long ago and see what happens from there.   In truth I'm cheating and coping down a review I've already written and adding to it.

Title: Love in an Elevator by
Author: Sean Micheal
Stars: 3/5
More info: Goodreads.com
Buy it: Barnes & Noble, Borders, Torquere Books

Blurb: Scott Johnson is a free-lance photographer who likes to take pictures, watch movies, and play. On a job he meets business executive Josh Silvers. Josh is a force to be reckoned with, tall, and self-confident, he seems to be able to reach right into Scott's psyche and give him exactly what he needs. The only problem is that Scott doesn't take orders, while Josh seems awfully fond of giving them. Still, despite his occasional protests, Scott seems to be following them just fine. For now. Will that change if Josh goes further than Scott wants to? Or does Josh really know him better than he knows himself.

Read from February 03 to 06, 2011
The Why : This book was tempting me from afar for a while.   First of all I had wanted to try something written by Sean Micheal for a while but was always a bit too hesitant to actually pick anything of his up to read because I had seen that some of his other books involved a bit too much BDSM material for a modest beginner of the topic like me.   Secondly, this book was on a list of books using certain toys, Sounds, that I had wanted to read a scene about.   After buying this book it probably sat on my TBR shelf for about a month before I actually did get to reading it, and this is what I thought....
My Thoughts: There is a lot of sex in this book.... Way too much for the lack of plot development.
Don't get me wrong, there was a little bit of a plot, but you had to dig through way too much sex to try and get to it. And for the work to find the plot, there wasn't enough of it.   The characters seem to care about each other and would be happy together but that's a hard conclusion to get to from the basis of almost pure sex. Don't get me wrong, the sex scenes were great and amazing and great, but after reading through so many pages of just pure sex it started to get a little muddled and I was honestly doubting if I truly wanted to finish the book to see if it got any better.
The last scene was the hottest scene i've possibly ever read, so it was almost worth digging though that much sex to get to it.

Much Love,
Samantha

The Who And Why

First order of business is the Who...
Well, I'm Sam.   And that's all you truthfully all need to know, but I'll expand on that little piece of information.  I'm a bit young comparing my years to my books [some of my favorites being The picture of Dorian Gray and M/M Romances] but that's ok with me.   I'm involved in the arts in many facets. I'm currently going to school to get my degree in Theatre and Speech Communication with an emphasis in Technical and Design. I'm also hoping to minor in Art as well.  When I was in high school I was taking advanced art classes, and was a member of both the National Art Honor Society and the International Thespian Society.   When I'm not working in the arts I'm shoving my nose as far as I can into a book, or more recently my nook that I'm loving.

B, Second, Lastly, And most importantly (Whichever you prefer) The Why...
This one is a bit more complicated to answer....   This may just be my way of getting something out there, a bit of my opinion to rant out for the world.   Even if the world doesn't pay much attention... though I hope that's not the case..... Past that I wanted to have my reviews written so I can get better at them, which is something I wish to do.   And again I wanted the chance to write my woes with the world down and hope to get the ear of at least one to listen to.

I only have one last thing to add, I'm extremely new at this.   So please pardon my mishaps with patience and see to it to give me some advice to grow and change for the better.

Here's for wishing for the best,
Samantha
